The Rev. Dr. Mattie Pinkney is the organizing pastor of Agape Ministries/Agape Baptist Church and the Executive Director of Agape Community Outreach Services, which was established under her leadership as the separate 501 [c] (3) community outreach arm of the Agape Church.
Agape is nestled in the Mt. Airy/Wadsworth section of the City of Philadelphia, where Pastor Pinkney lived (in the same house) until 2005, for over thirty-four years. As a new church plant, Agape was organized in 1992, under the denominational umbrella of American Baptist Churches and in the year 2000, the church duly aligned with National Baptist Convention. On April 13, 2015, Agape will celebrated twenty-three years of community worship, ministry and outreach. And, on March 23, 2015, Pastor Pinkney will celebrate thirty-five in the preaching and teaching ministries.
Before answering the call to organize this new church ministry, Pastor Pinkney served three other local congregations for a period of more than thirteen years, in such capacities as: Youth Minister, Christian Education Director, Young Adult Supervisor, Assistant Pastor and Senior Associate. Pastor Pinkney also served as Church Coordinator for the Honorable W. Wilson Goode, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia. She answered the call and was licensed to preach the gospel in 1980, at the Beloved St. John Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Matt Yance Jr. She was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1985, at the Second Timothy Baptist, under the leadership of the late Rev. Lewis Graham.
While preaching and teaching the Word of God is her first love, for over thirty years Pastor Pinkney has severed as an advocate for young children and working, parents Especially single mothers. On a daily basis, she encounters over 65-75 children in Agape’s daycare, after school, youth, and Project Hope ministries.
Pastor Pinkney has an earned Doctor of Ministry Degree (urban focus), at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Other earned degrees include: Master’s of Divinity, Eastern Theological Seminary; Master’s of Education, Psycho-educational Processes, Temple University; Temple University; Bachelor’s of Arts, Education, Temple University; Bachelor’s of Science, Business Administration. Dr. Pinkney has recently completed the Pennsylvania Director’s Early Childhood Certification-.matriculating at both Arcadia University and Montgomery County Community College.
Along with many teaching and workshop facilitation training certifications, Pastor Pinkney is commissioned as a Pennsylvania Notary Public and has certifications in Grant Writing/Management and Review, by National Grant Writer Association; Food Safety and Preparation, by the City of Philadelphia; Police-Clergy Science; and Youth development, by the Untied Way. Pastor is now looking forward to a formal teaching ministry at the seminary level. It is her hearts desire to help prepared women and men for the gospel ministry in the urban context.
